Hyperion PBCS August 2018 update for Planning and Budgeting

What's New in 18.08?

Summary:

Another month, another What's New update!

A little quieter this month (especially on the Workforce front) but some good stuff, none-the-less:

The What's New document re-iterates the LCM Essbase and Relational Data partial export/import changes that were reverted in a patch for 18.07 after a Customer Connect post!  Yes,  you can still export and import just the data but be sure to keep the Relational Data (e.g. Supporting Detail, Cell Text, etc.) aligned with the Essbase Data.
New Application Setting to Restrict Currency Calculations in Forms to be Based on the Scenario Planning Range
New Infolets Designer Properties Panel to more easily make and see results of change
Folder support for Dashboards and Infolets; each uses the same folder structure as the Forms Folders now.  Thus, access permissions granted on a Folder will apply to all Forms, Dashboards, and Infolets in that Folder.  Note, if you are in the Dashboard, Forms, or Infolets UI, you will only see the respective Dashboards, Forms, or Infolets even though you may have all 3 types in the same folder.  As such, security permissions granted on the Folder from any of these views does, in fact, apply permissions to all artifacts in the FOLDER regardless of the UI from which it was assigned.  For example, if you put all "Blue" Dashboards, Infolets, and Forms in a Folder called "Blue Stuff" and you navigate to the Dashboard UI, assigning Permissions from this User Interface will apply to all Infolets and Forms in addition to the Dashboards in that Folder even though you only see the Dashboards from this UI.
New Server Setting for Financial Reporting Web Studio to Run Batch With Signed On User Credentials.  When this setting is set to "True," there is no prompt for a username and password in the Batch Scheduler but, instead, uses the credentials of the user who is currently signed in.
Finally after months of warnings, the Financial Reporting Studio Desktop Client is no longer provided with the 18.08 release.  Command line utilities associated with the FR Desktop Studio will also be discontinued with the 18.08 release.  Please use the Financial Reporting Web Studio instead of the Desktop Client.
Update Vision Sample Application.  This was announced last month but reverted due to technical issues and is being released in 18.08.
New documentation on Optimizing Business Rules.  This functionality has existing for a long, long time but Administrators and partners didn't seem aware of the way to leverage Activity Reports and the Calc Manager log messages after running a rule form Calc Manager, so we documented it.  The Activity Report shows the worst performing Calc Scripts and Business Rules.  Administrators are able to run these rules from Calc Manager to view the Log entries for analysis.
Upcoming Changes:

Classic Dimension Editor is going away in  the October 2018 (18.10) release.  Please do yourself a huge favor and start using the Simplified Dimension Editor to gain familiarity and to identify any gaps in functionality or enhancements by logging SRs before the Classic Dimension Editor goes away.
Composite Form creation is scheduled to be deprecated in 19.01  (January 2019) release.
Considerations:

As I mentioned in another post, remember that the 18.07 Release migrated all users to the new Financial Reporting Repository but did NOT migrate the user preferences.  Each user must manually set their preferences when using the Repository for the first time.
If you are a Smart View for Office with Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus be aware of a Microsoft Patch known issue for those who signed up for monthly channel updates between June 12 and June 14, 2018.  Microsoft patch 16.0.10228.20051 updated through the insider slow channel prevents the use of Smart View for Office with Microsoft Office 365.  Please avoid upgrading to this patch and use Microsoft Office 365 monthly channel Version 1806 (Build 10228.20080), which contains the fix for this issue.
Happy planning!
